We can provide you with a foot measure to print at home to make fitting very straightforward (or simply have your child stand on a ruler or tape measure). Please make sure your printer is set to 100% so that the sizes come out correctly. Either print out two copies or take one foot’s measurement and then the other. With your child wearing socks or tights which don’t scrunch up toes, have them stand on a hard floor with their weight across both feet and their toes lying relaxed and flat. Line up heel up with the ‘zero’ line on the size guide and holding a pencil straight up and down find the longest point of the foot. The key measurement is the length between the longest toe and the heel. Where feet are different sizes take the bigger measurement. Add about about 1cm or half an inch for growth and compare the measurement against this size guide. Here is an example to help you: Child’s foot measurement 14.2cm (142mm) or 5 2/3 inches Add 1 centimetre; brings us to 15.2 cm or 6 inches Convert to European size 25 on the chart If they are right between sizes opt for the bigger one. Once you have the shoes, open all the buckles and laces properly so that it’s easy to get the feet in. The fit should be snug around the heel and have about a thumb’s width of growing room at the toe of the shoe. The fit across the base of the toes should be gently close, not too tight so there is no give and not too loose so the foot can move around. The widest part of the foot (across the base of the toes) should sit in the widest part of the shoe. Make sure the heel is held nicely against the back of the shoe and that the side doesn’t go above the ankle bone. There should be room for a finger to slide in around the top of a t-bar shoe. When you are a kid new shoes often feel a bit funny and take a little time before they are really yours!
