Tutorial Photo

The most important thing for us at Marketplace is the quality of the products and materials you use to make your creations.

The way you present your product to the customer is also very important. We know very well that photographs have a huge impact on customer buying behaviour. Attractive, high-quality photographs are the most important asset in boosting sales. Research has shown that products presented with 6 professional photos will, on average, sell 15% more than the same product presented with an amateur photo. In other words: the better your photos, the more you will sell! Not only that, the more photographs you use to display your products, the more chances you have of selling.

To make the online buying experience as pleasant as possible, the Marketplace team has created guidelines that your photos need to meet, to be published on the site.

DIMENSIONS

Large, clear images is the latest trend. You must make sure that the product covers 85% of the surface area. Nobody wants to see a tiny product floating in loads of white space.

 ALIGNMENT

 MAIN IMAGE

Always use a white background. There are many benefits to this, and it enables better display on mobile devices. This format is very popular with customers.

 OTHER IMAGES

The white background is not required. However, you should be consistent with your style so that you transmit a strong brand identity, professionalism, and inspire confidence – these are all things that will help customers with their purchase. We recommend uploading at least three images per product.

 Type of SHADOWS

NO WATERMARKS

or personal logos. Marketplace will add its own watermarks to make the site look uniform and to make the customer buying experience more pleasant.

The Marketplace team has put together a do-it-yourself guide, with the help of the best technicians and photography professionals, to help you create beautiful photos for your products with little effort and at low cost!

Remember that the more information you give about the product, the better the buying experience will be, and the lower the number of returns. Product information comes from two main sources: the descriptions and photographs. This is why publishing several high-quality photos for each product is essential for a successful online business.

This is what you need to think about if you want to produce photos that show off your wonderful creations at their best!

Camera The good news is that you can even produce fantastic photographs without having an expensive camera! If you don't have a professional camera don't panic, you can use a compact or even your mobile phone camera.
The set should be a white background, with enough space to let you take photographs from various angles. You'll need a room, table, roll of white paper and adhesive tape to fix it in place. We recommend a fixed location so you don't have to create the set each time, and to make your images consistent. If you want more stability for your camera, you can use a tripod.
Lighting This is one of the key factors in showing off your products at their best. As far as the light is concerned you can also use natural light (but remember you can't take photographs in the evening). To get the best from a naturally-lit environment, the object should be positioned close to the window. Use a reflective white panel at the opposite side of the window, so that the light bounces off the product. If you decide to invest in lighting equipment, two or three sources will be enough.
The important thing is not to mix different types of light.
The products to be photographed should be prepared as well as possible before the photograph session.
You need to remove any imperfections (labels, tags, dust, creases or folds). Don't add too many accessories to your product as it might confuse the customer. One or two accessories will be enough (a flower, a toy, a ribbon, baby shoes) but try to focus the attention on the product you want to sell.
It's important to show the shape of the product, perhaps by using a dummy or showing the product being worn.
Don't forget to photograph the important features of the product (trimming, buttons, embroidery, bows and other unique characteristics of your creation).
Colour It's very important, for customer satisfaction, that the colour in the photo is as close as possible to real life.

These are our simple guidelines to help you produce images that will make the Marketplace experience unique to your customers, at low cost and with little effort.
