WHY MERINO?
Merino wool yarn is made from the fleece of merino wool sheep. The fleece is thick and equal. The highest quality yarns are made from merino wool fibre.
Merino wool is soft and light due to the fine fibers from which the yarns are spun. It is non-irritating even the most sensitive skin. It let the body breathe and has temperature regulating qualities, that means when it’s warm it’s not too warm, when it’s cold it keeps you warm. It works as an insulator due to the millions of tiny air pockets of merino fiber. This is the difference between merino and synthetic fibers, which close your body like in a plastic bag, keep you warm but do not let breathe.
Merino wool is elastic, that’s why the garments keep shape after washing them many times, wearing them many years.
You do not need to wash a garment as often as f. ex. cotton or synthetic because merino wool has a natural protective layer, which prevent stains of being absorbed. It doesn’t keep unpleasant odour like some other kind of fiber does. The wool fiber’s core absorbs water and its hydrophobic exterior repels it, so there’s no moist surface for microbes to grow on. That makes merino wool naturally antibacterial.
Merino wool doesn’t make peeling due to the long fibers from which the yarns are spun. When the small bubbles rise from the surface, it’s easy to pick them up from the garment after washing. The garment looks like new. That is the difference from simple wool or synthetics where the bubbles form a felted surface with a time.
